God has given us the emotions of guilt, shame and conviction to help us identify when we have gone astray so we may repent and get back on the right path. Being on the right path will bring us into a state of praise and thankfulness. Persistent shame is tied to stress and leads us to believe we are a bad or defective and are helpless to change. It colors how we see ourselves and pronounces us guilty and deficient. But the Word of God tells us that we are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for God’s own possession. God has called you out of darkness into His marvelous light. To get back on the right path all we need to do is before God confess our sins, He is faithful and will forgive us and cleanse us. God says He makes all things new. The Bible is filled with examples of people who have moved from shame to praise. They should encourage us in our daily walk with God.
